A Trace
Thinking back of joyful memories, from the start,
Never leaving you, shattering your heart.
Retiring at night, with them right in your soul,
Waking up in the morning, still taking their toll.
Each day passes, thinking of yesterday,
Feelings of disbelief, will they ever go away?
Wonder what made this happen, was it your fault?
Tears roll down your face, hoping they'll halt.
Walls melting down that were solid as ice,
Unconditional love, once peaceful and nice.
Sharing stories and secrets of your lives history,
Putting them all together, so they won’t be a mystery.
Building the bond of honesty and trust with each other,
Anticipating, that it will last forever.
Feeling the love, soon turning to a frown,
Slipping away, as you fall to the ground.
Could it be it was all just a race?
Knowing someone had your heart; it's the end of the chase.
Memories of once was, won't ever erase,
Only reflections of yesterday, will just be a trace.

Re: A Trace
Beautifully written Tica and anyone over 30 who has put some reasonable & quality time into their life and has experienced sincere reflection on "what might have been" must feel and relate to much of that.

Re: A Trace
that's a terrific piece tica...it really draws the reader in...what a way to convey the life transition of a love...now gone or forever changed from what it was initially..joy, pain, and sorrow with a hint of regret perhaps...

Re: A Trace
Very well put. Some of us just hope that is not too late. That with alot of hard work, that all can be salvaged and a new chapter be written.
