Editing and analysis...
I've heard and read, that handwriting analysis is very accurate way of reading an individual's personality.
Does the same go for the typed text? Do our typing habits and grammar mistakes speak for us?
I tend to overuse the exclamation point for one, and seem to have an obsession with using "etc..." I alway use three typed out sperated by commas examples, then add in the "etc..." Then there are some words that I insist on misspelling, like "doode" and "noobies" and what about those quotation marks? They seem to fit well when I'm typing my thoughts, but it always crosses my mind that I over use them so much. Maybe it's just a need to inject an emotion or mood into the Times Roman font, that an emoticon or html codes don't seem to cover quite right.
Are these kind of things the result of my small town elemantary hillbilly classrooms, or a part of my personality spilling out on my keyboard and right into my text box?

Re: Editing and analysis...
I find that I tend to make typing and spelling errors and then forget to do spell check before submitting my replies. It is probably because I am in a hurry to get them posted so others can read them. I have to learn to be more patient and to be in less of a hurry.

Re: Editing and analysis...
I do love the "spell check" and my Merriam-Webster's toolbar, but I'm a little silly about trying very hard to spell things on my own, then it becomes some sort of personal victory or defeat when I see what message the spell check gives me as to how many and if any, misspellings were found. This being the case with me, are there others like me? Are there those that just spell out things enough, then rely entirely on spell check to edit and correct?

Re: Editing and analysis...
I do try to correct any mispellings on my own but when I am not sure of a proper spelling I then rely on spell check.

Re: Editing and analysis...
I really don't think that typing has anything to do with how you are.... or how smart/dumb you are. I type pretty much the way I talk... "ya' reckon?" lol

If I were to write an essay, there would be g's where they're supposed to go!

Re: Editing and analysis...
Absolutely no relection on how dumb/smart anyone is, you like to say "ya reckon?" and I like to say "ya'all", which to me is more of an indication of our personalities, and nothing to do with IQ.
Even math and spelling skills aren't much of a reflection on a person's true intelligence when we do have so many gadgets and tools to rely on to make our daily grind easier. Tons of kids graduate from Universities with well earned degrees and honors, but can be totally lost with out using a calculator, they were raised with them, they are now a major part of every education system.

I know, but you brought up something I've often thought was a bad idea. Calculators! I hate 'em! I know it makes life easier sometimes but when they MAKE the kids use 'em in school, it takes away from them using their BRAIN!! I think so, anyhow

Re: Editing and analysis...
My three daughters all used calculators in school but it never hurt their abilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide without one. Children will still learn to use their brain for math.

Re: Editing and analysis...
Now that these things have been mentioned, I seem to recall a TV news feature that talked about how horrible our handwriting has become because so many of us no rely on the computer for emails, instant messaging, and how letter writing with spell check is leaving us with no trace of our previous knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Back to the original topic, I'm sure there is are some personality analysis that can explain odd typing habits like my tendency to over use the exclamation point.

Re: Editing and analysis...
My handwriting has become so awful over the past 10 years that I write so seldom now because I cannot even read it. I am tied to a computer all day and in the evening. My signature has become less legible compared to how it looked 10 years ago.

Re: Editing and analysis...
I tend not to use spell check, unless, I'm not sure how to spell something. I also tend to write the way I talk, lol, accent and all y'all.

But I love to read, so I do generally puzzle things out as to grammar and spelling. Have to, I'm a reviewer now, can't have me writing worse than the writer does, lol!

Re: Editing and analysis...
Handwriting is no longer a subject in education. It left when computers came to the classrooms.
