Cell phones
So I'm considering getting a cell phone. Would need two though. What are some good plans out there? I don't want to get stuck with overages and extra charges that they don't tell you about. I would also not like a long contract, you never know whats gonna happen.

Re: Cell phones
...allot of good prepaid deals out there, been checking on them myself. I usually watch the TV ads, then go to their websites to get full details.

I've been thinking about the prepaids but aren't those more expensive?

They are a little more expensive, but don't require a long contract, nor do they require a huge deposit (If you have bad credit).

Re: Cell phones
Mine are all cingular nationwide. $40 base and with taxes and such about $50.00 per month.

essentially unlimited time, unlimited rollover and no long distance except in a few weird places.

I occasionally buy some pre-paid time for one of my workers so they can have a phone, but they usually just call home and blow their entire allotment.

Re: Cell phones
I have a Nextel and a Verizon phone. I travel the country and 1 is just as good/bad as the other. My Verizon is around $200.00/month and my Nextel is their unlimited plan for $200.00/month. Nextel has no roaming charges. My bill will never be more than the $200/mo. I don't know a thing about contract terms. I spend the extra $4 and get insurance. But then again it's all a write off for my Business.

Re: Cell phones
Wow....$200 is too steep for me. I was hoping for around $50 or $60 a month for 2 phones.

I jsut saw an add this weekend for cingular or Verizon? Butt it was two phones with a bunch of hours with free nights and weekends and no roaming I think for like $59.00. I'm pretty sure you can get a plan from any provider from $39. and then just add a second phone for like $9.95 more. Most seem to require 2 year contract anymore.

I have an old plan from Sprint with only like 70 mins a month peak and 500 off peak, free long distance, caller ID, Voice mail etc. for $27.95. There was never any contract with this plan, and I have never used up my 70 mins. Nobody wants to talk to me anyway! Oh

Re: Cell phones
I have had lots of cell phones since the eightys when they were called brick phones, as far as reliability, being able to use the phone most anywhere in the US and not considering cost, I would say that Verison was the best and the Nextel I have now is the worst. the only reasons I keep it:
1000 anytime minutes
free nights & weekends
no long distance/roam fees
no contract
unlimited walke talke
free repair/replace if broken 2.50 a month extra
free replace. if lost/stolen 2.50 a month extra
50.oo a month + aprox 10.oo tax

I got it through a corporate/Govt. plan like:
a utility co. =(how I got mine)
a fire dept.
a police dept
a compamy that has a Govt. regulated or operating contract. etc.
the place you work for may have an option for you.

Re: Cell phones
Same as hothands. I've had all of em since the 80's and verizon is the best for quality signal anywhere in the US. NExtel sucks everywhere in the US. Tmobile is what I have now but thats because i got a plan when they first started up that no one can beat. Signal pretty good in most areas but has some bad spots. Cingular is just ok. If you look at it they all have about the same plans nowadays. It just depends on what promotion they are running at the moment that really gets you a better deal from one to the other.
It depends also how you are going to use the phone. My mom and sisters have US cellular. It sucks as far as I am concerned but for them it works fine. They dont really use them much, just have it for convenience. It's cheap!

Verizon America 2 phones with tax 72 a month... 9pm-6am mon-fri and all weekend unlimited countrywide... 500 peak minutes. OH, and that whole in thing so you could call me (AHEM) I mean anyone else on their verizon phone for free whenever.

We use ours for all long distance and whatever... dont have a home phone at all either so it works out pretty well for us.

Dont get T-Mobile they are crap. I had cingular but I think they were more expensive so we ended up going with Verizon.

Description Amount
Total current charges $73.48

Monthly charges 59.99
Verizon Wireless surcharges and other charges and credits 4.86
Taxes, governmental surcharges and fees 8.63

Re: Cell phones
Most of the big guys are good like verizon, cingular. I have cingular but I am not a good source to compare as I get tons of minutes and tons of data for wireless internet. My bill is around $200 for 2500 minutes, its a business plan. Preepaid is good if you dont want a contract or just go with a plan that fits your budget.
