Infra Red Quartz heaters
I've been considering getting one of those infra red quartz heaters for awhile now, a few in my family have one and really like them. I think Eden Pur (Bob Vila advertises for them) is the main brand name but allot of copies and posers out there too.

Anyone using one of these types of heaters, and what's your opinion of them?

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
I bought what i think is one of those types of heaters. I refused to pay over $200 for the Eden pur.

I'll know when I get home how much it helped and the next utility bill will reflect more. It did seem to be helping when I was home.

The one I bought is like a small fireplace. I like the fake flames. Relaxing they are.

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
I like those too, the ones that look like a burning stove.

I need something like the Eden Pure, the housing part doesn't get hot, safe to run on a themostat setting at night (something I would never do with other types of space heaters) and energy efficient.

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
I have seen several of the brand heaters you are talking about.I do not know how well they are. Some look and sound very nice.
My dad has three of the eden pure ones as well.He loves them very much,My brother just bought one of the same himself..I wish I could help you out on the knock off brands.
Myself I fefuse to pay that much money, for a heater that is just going to make my electric bill higher. But then again I am into the solar heat,so I get it for free when the su shines.

This one has a thermostate. The outside also doesn't get hot. That's one thing I was looking for as well. This came from Menards for $99.

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
I get newspaper inserts from Menards, but they are too far away. but I'll check the insert for the model and brand name and look it up.

I need the heater for the upstairs bedroom, so the look of flame would be nice for that.

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
Not sure about where you are. The local Runnings Farm and Fleet has the Eden Pur. Runnings is part of the "do it best" chain. So, you may have one near you.

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
I got home today and the house was a nice toasty 70 degrees. I left the heater I mentioned on about 3/4. This is the first time I got home this time of year and the house was as warm as it should be.

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
I think I'm pretty convinced, visited my parents and they have one, they have the Eden Pure and the house was totally toasty.

I live in a hundred year old house, we have a fairly new furnace but it just doesn't do enough for the upstairs, the bedrooms are cold, and I need something safe and effiecient, these types of heaters seem to be what I'm needing for sure.

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
I have to agree. I couldn't justify the cost or the Eden Pur.

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
I'm thinkin' of going with the Eden Pure, 3 to 5 year warrenty, pricy but can pay in installments, and although I've read good and bad reviews online, the people I actually know that use them, love them.

Most of the bad reviews are complaining about the claims of cutting your overall energy costs means turning down your thermostat down to 50 degrees and using the Eden Pure to heat the room you're in to aquire the maximum heating savings.

That's fine with me, I understand that it is and marketed as a space heater. it's clearly stated in their all their media ads, and in my particular case where I need to heat a smaller personal space like our bedroom, it sounds ideal.

Speaking for myself, I prefer to sleep in a cooler room anyway, but hubs, he can't stand the cold and he's a day sleeper, so the heater would only run during the day when he's sleeping.

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
I was thinkin about this again. I figger the quart heaters use quartz halagon light bulbs and the infared ones use infared or "brooder" bulbs.

The "brooder" bulbs are comon to use for keeping baby chickens warm. They are also infinately less expensive that the heaters that use them.

The infared bulbs are also known as heat lamps.

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
we had one when we were renting a room last winter down by my folks, it was a old hotel we had the end room ,it sure did help and kept the room nice 70-80 toasty, and the best thing was it was quite, i have two others that we have for the camper, ones quartz the other has a element the gets red, we use it in the bedroom upstairs in this old house , it loud and vibes and keeps the room warm too, i know we did camping, when we are at a place that that has power ...most of the places have no power we go to , so we also have a generator,1000 and 1500 watts sure draw it down.....

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
Bumping this back up, still haven't decided on a type or brand, so anyone using something they would recommend, that would be appreciated.

I'm interested not only how well one would heat a pretty good sized (bed)room but the impact on the electric bill as well.

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
I bought a round quartz heater. Kind of looks like a fan but has 2 quartz halogen bulbs. I set in the bedroom faced toward the living room. Definately helps even though it has no fan. It has both straight ahead and swivel settings. Also low and high. I think it was $50?

Re: Infra Red Quartz heaters
For the bedroom I'm liking my electric blanket, keeps me snug as a bug in a rug. I would think the IR heaters might run up the light bill. I guess one could put a timmer with it so only just before you get home or wake up it would come on.

Mine hasn't made any noticable difference in the electric bill. Sure does make tings nice and warm though. With me, it's not only being warm all over. It's also not inhaling cold feeling air.

We did get the Eden pure this winter, for the upstairs.
Very happy with it, not much difference at all in the electric bill and it's the first winter in this 100 year old house that I've been warm...even too warm
