Wanted: Internet Bookstore
I'm searching for on line websites where I can purchase reasonably cheap new, and/or barely used books, if you use or know of any I'd greatly appreciate it, thank you in advance.

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
I dunno, amazon is always good for books. Used ones are usually in very good condition and darn cheap.

For PDR information, I usually just look 'em up online to get the most recent and updated info.
There's online PDR's

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
I've looked into the Internet PDR website (PDR.net) which can only be accessed by U.S.-based MDs, DOs, Dentists, Optometrists, NPs and PAs in full-time patient practice, and to U.S. medical students, residents and other select prescribing allied health professionals. I’d like to have the book for reference in case my Internet defuncts, covering all basis using it as a secondary backup. This book can be purchased at Amazon, and local bookstores like Barnes and Noble, Borders for a hefty price, that's why I was looking for a used one, or slightly used.

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
I use amazon when I need a book, I still get catalogs snail mail from another place I've used allot for some great close out deals...Bargin Books.

I have used some PDR's online, just needed an account there and I didn't have to be in the medical profession.

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
I suggest you try bookfinder. This is a search service that covers many online sellers of new and used books. The site is easy to use. Hope this helps. I will be glad to help you search if you like.

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
Thank you forposter for assisting in helping me , I'm looking for this specific PDR. With having diabetes type 1, a thyroid condition, Fybromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Back Steno sis, Degenerated Disc Disease, Bone fusions in my upper neck, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Patella Femoral Syndrome (with my knees), Neuropahthy (peripherally, and in the organs), Retinopahthy/Glaucoma, trying to find pharmaceutical drugs that don't interact in a negative way with my body and what I have is very difficult.

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
You are very welcome. I can see why, with that many conditions, you would want to be careful about drugs. I do not know that much about medicine, but I do know how to find books.

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
The previous post was a guy I know who replied on my behalf without my permission. He wrote what I wanted to write and did not identify himself as speaking for me. I apologize for the screwup. You will not hear from him again.

....trying to find pharmaceutical drugs that don't interact in a negative way with my body and what I have is very difficult.

Probably a Pharmacist and your Doctors would be more helpful than a reference book.
The thing is with Doctors, they are aggressively courted by the major drug companies, the drug salesmen fill up their waiting rooms bearing incentives and gifts.(Everything from pens to flat screen TVs)
They are...salesmen, and they do hardcore selling in a very competitive market. Their job is to convince doctors that their drugs are the safest and the most effective. (Then the next thing you know, FDA is recalling) Drug salesmen pitch the clinical studies and play off the lesser common side effects and interactions as "almost the same as a placebo" but...it is a fact that the lesser common side effects and interactions do occur in some people.

I can see where a PDR might be good for gaining information, but still....talking to your Pharmacist is a very good option.

Anyone here in the medical/pharmaceutical profession?

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
I have a whole unit of specific medical professionals consisting of specialists/physicians that work together with my medical and with the pharmacist. I need to be fully aware of what pharma drugs they want to try on me due to the allergic interactions/reactions/side effects that have and could happen to me. I have to be and keep myself well advised and on top with my health in every aspect including daily/weekly health logs, from medications to all of my health conditions. That's why I'm looking for a specific PDR for my own personal references that I've used in the past and had very good results from.

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
Kinda sounds like what my hubs goes through with all the doctors and specialists, I keep his log. I just save the patient information off the bag that comes with his pharmacy orders. It's up to date, has all the information a PDR does. I keep them in a folder.

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
Just curious ticad, you refer to a specific PDR; I assume you mean a specific edition this is a book. Do you know the title or anything at all about the book (publication year)? That would help in searching.

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
forposter, I’ve concluded if I’m going to make this purchase I’ll make sure it’s the current edition.
Date Published: November 30, 2009
ISBN-10: 1563637480
ISBN-13: 9781563637483
Cost: $99.95 (through the PDRBookstore site) I'm sure I can find it someplace else online for a more reasonable price, just need to find it, that's all.

Have you ventured to the PDRBookstore site? Very nice, I’d like to purchase a few others but currently it’s not good timing for me. Thanks again for helping with this.

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
I handle the full gambit with almost everything in my parents life (their sole caretaker) including their medical, from discussing their health with their physicians, bringing them to their Dr's (mom, not dad.. dad has to enter the hospital for anything specific for his medical via ambulance, he has a home nurse that visits weekly) to ordering their meds, filling their trays on a weekly basis, etc. So in turn, the PDR would also be resourceful and beneficial with my parents health. Mom has a multiple of heart conditions (open heart surgery 2 yrs ago, she had went through the stint process for yrs. and finally had to replace her Aorta), osteoporosis, macular degenerative eye condition (legally blind), neuropathy (which she‘s had for yrs), diabetes type 2 (sedentary, becoming one yr ago), along with having 2 sets of brain aneurysms removed (6 weeks apart, yrs ago), 2 knee replacements (yrs back), and a few other procedures/operations through the years. Mom takes five different meds for her heart alone, and with her other health conditions, it equals taking 14 medications daily. Dad has multiple heart conditions, diabetic (sedentary, insulin dep.. a few yrs ago diagnosed), COPD, Emphysema, PTSD/Agent Orange (from wars), neuropathy, barely walks and he is on 12 different medications from insulin, to heart meds, to breathing medications using a nebulizer and a oxygenator daily. I feel it’s important to be aware and keep up with medical resources from books to literature, to discussing medicine/medical with the proper medical professionals. I’m just glad I have the opportunity and can be there for my parents in trying to help in which ever way I can, for tomorrow no one knows what life holds. It brings me joy when I see them smile every day.

you are a very strong woman for dealing with that all alone! , but sometimes, you need to stop, take a breath, and do something fun for your self. even if it's just soaking in a hot bubble bath for two hours...

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
Yep, a whole lot of us have our parents entering their "golden years"...and along with that comes allot of stuff for sure.

Ya'all don't even want me to start listing what I have, and have had, what the hubs has got going on, what my parents have going on and what my in-laws got going on... It would either bore you or bum ya out!

It's no different than so many of you out there really. I know allot of you are carrying a very, very heavy burden.
Bless your hearts!

We're happy that if only for a bit, you can come here and escape the harsh and rocky reality.

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
2009 PDR Used....$2.76 and up

2010 PDR used....$19.99 and up
At Amazon.

That's pretty cheap, I've bought and sold books there, the condition statements are always pretty accurate because there is customer feedback on the site. Just check the seller ratings.

Re: Wanted: Internet Bookstore
Yeah, only took a second to search for these books used.
Used ones in good condition are all over the internet and cheap, cheap shipping too.

So...you can get a good condition used 2009 PDR from amazon real cheap, books ship there standard shipping for under $4. 2010 edition, about $20 plus the standard $4 shipping.
