any "geeks" out there that can give any recommendations on video recorders?
brands.... media styles.... what to stay away from... ect.?

I'm actually too lazy right now to get up, go in the living room and see what brand mine is... ... but I think it's a sony hi8 .... hasn't failed me yet! 'cept when I'm filmin' my daughter's bball games.. I'll forget what I'm doin' and completely miss the action 'cause I'm watchin' the game and not runnin' the camera but that's my own fault.

I've had it for about a year now. It has a feature that lets you video at night... not exactly "night vision" but close. Has a small light on it, too. I like it 'cause it's easy to hook up to your tv and it's small and lightweight. It doesn't have a battery. It comes with a charger... which I think is much better. Those batteries tend to fizzle out after a few times usin' 'em. You can have it charging while your taping or watchin' it on your tv.

i dont know.. after looking around and talking to people i think we'll end up just going with a nicer digital camera that has video capabilities. we wouldnt use the video all that terribly often and when we do it'll just be for short bursts anyhow.
something along the lines of a sony cybershot h7'ish camera.
