Here's to all the Dads out there
Here's to all the Dads out there,
With calloused hands and hearts so grand.
Who taught us how to spot the deer,
And antelope across the prairie vast.
Who warned of rattlesnakes unseen,
A silent threat, a sudden strike,
Through sage and chico brush so dark green,
Beneath the ever-watching sky alike.
Here's to all the Dads out there,
Who taught us how to ride with grace,
And shoot with aim, beyond compare,
Finding our target, finding our place.
Who let us drive the hay truck slow,
In idle speed, a dusty crawl,
A tiny hand, a steady flow,
Before we truly stood up tall.
Who let us drive the Command Car,
A giant wheel, a mighty thrill,
Though pedals were too far, so far,
Or road ahead, we couldn't fill.
Who gave that serious scolding look,
A silent truth, a heavy weight,
A lesson learned from wisdom's book,
Before it was a moment late.
Who brought the newborn calf inside,
From freezing cold, a tender care,
With gentle hands, a father's pride,
A life saved from the frosty air.
To all those Dads out there,
With snow-topped mountains in the view,
Who shaped our world, our every start,
In all you said and all you do,
You held a special place within our heart.
