Space exploration and the future of space travel
Space exploration and the future of space travel.
On July 20, 1969, American astronauts Neil Armstrong ) and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin became the first humans ever to land on the moon. About six-and-a-half hours later, Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon.
I remember clearly watching this on the television and dear Aunt Martha was saying, "You don't appreciate this.'
I was eight and have vivid memories of the first step and HER!
What now? Perhaps all the way to Mars.
And, all of a sudden I picture "Lost in Space".

Re: Space exploration and the future of space travel
Heh-heh! Lost in Space 1965 to 68 the best years for me, with the naughty Dr Zachary Smith. WARNING:WARNING:WARNING.
Probably like the space walk we witnessed too, was shot in Technicolor, but didn't matter as we couldn't afford a colour TV until the 70's anyway. I think trying to sustain life on the red planet might be a no-no for mankind as it will constantly clog up the air conditioner filters.
But for now, the only Mars I'd land on, is the one with the soft nougat and caramel centre, covered in thick milk chocolate. Raised on 'em
And I turned out normal, didn't I?

Re: Space exploration and the future of space travel
I just remembered this movie I must have watched ages ago.
The space movie featuring Bruce Dern is "Silent Running" (1972). In this film, Bruce Dern plays Freeman Lowell, an astronaut tasked with preserving the last remaining plant life from Earth, which is kept in a greenhouse aboard a spaceship called the Valley Forge. The film explores themes of environmentalism and the importance of nature in a future where all flora on Earth has become extinct.

I do remember that movie. Entertaining. But as a spoiler... If there were no trees as we rely on them suppling us with 28% of our oxygen, the remain 72% we need comes from marine plants and if these were also included in global flora extinction, we'd all soon follow...
(Memo to self: Must make sure all my utility bills are up to date and repay bank loan. Also tell wife I can't stand her mother).
