What's your favorite travel experience?
Mine, a trip to the Bahamas. There were several interesting and unexpected events. Our luggage was placed in the trunk of a cab. When returned it was half the height. A member of the cruise ship followed me. He was chased off. We stayed at a quaint hotel. It was necessary to travel by pontoon boat to the disco.
One night the boat was over capacity and began to take on water. I was asked to move from the front to the driver's chair, upon which a local said, "All you white people look alike, but you, I remember you. Your hair kept hitting me in the face when dancing.' Everyone found this hilarious.
There was a live band. The lead singer asked if I was in the Olympics? Other nights, you would find live music in the streets and people dancing.
Everyone was very friendly. One man said he would get me a job at his sister's restaurant. We travel by taxi. My travel friend Tina said the driver cursed at her.
When on a tour bus at a liquor store another bus driver asked me to finish the tour on his bus. My bus driver said, "No, she's not going with you.'
We met a local bartender, and she invited us to an all-night club. Her friend that drove us was HUGE! Someone wanted to talk to me, but he was too afraid. When we left, she was dropped off first. I will say, I was a little nervous and hoped we wouldn't be kidnapped. This man drove a Cadillac and took up 3/4 of the front seat.

This isn't for the girlies... 
My favourite travel experience is from the 1960’s and isn’t about flying off to some exotic destination as back then, flying was for the rich and famous and cheap airfare didn’t kick in until the late 1970’s and before that, most people would holiday at another location within the UK. But this was not a holiday and it was probably within a three mile radius from my own home. I spent the first fifty years of my life living on the Isle of Wight. For those that don’t know, this is a diamond shaped island of about twenty six by thirteen miles south of the UK mainland, offshore by just over a mile
Every few months, Mum wanted to shop in Portsmouth maybe for a new party frock or such like and the fashion stores are bigger and better over there and it was always a Thursday, market day. (And I got to take the day off school that my elder sisters didn’t). 
The journey would commence with a 5 minute walk to the local town railway station and on arrival the steam train it would whisk us down under the town by plunging through a long long tunnel in total darkness, to then suddenly to appear in the sunny seaside station. After a minute or so, the journey recommenced by rattling down a half mile Victorian pier to the ferry. As we queued and boarded the paddle steamer, it was the only time Mummy would let me go solo, as for the next 30 minutes she’d know full well that I would be downstairs and glued to a spot in the gallery, overlooking the engine bay and memorised at the sight of the huge piston connecting rods that turned the crankshaft, that moved the paddles outside.
On arrival at Portsmouth being a much more modern world than ours, we’d rush up the concourse to the train platform to a futuristic looking, post war electric train that within several minutes left us smack bang in the middle of town centre. The drapery store my mother wanted to visit was about a mile away, but within minutes would be humming our way up to North end on a trolley bus. On reaching the store, on the first occasion of these outings as luck would have it mum’s needs were upstairs and was the first time I’d ever seen one of those lift thingies, I believe you call them an elevator. We don’t have them at home only small shops. It was a big deal; it was the first time I left my tummy behind, whoo-hoo. 
After re-boarding a trolley bus but this time heading to the market where Mum blagged a few cheap items from various stalls that typically ended by purchasing a knocked off, Not For Retail Sale, large plastic tube of Brylcreem for dad and a huge 1lb bag of Jelly Beans that Mum would share out to us kids in the next coming months. After eating fish & chips in a café, we’ve only got to do the same journey, but in reverse. Could life get any better? 
Not far from home, but five different methods of transport, including the elevator and most of it all gone today. Maybe not as exotic as the Bahamas, but just as memorable that’ll last a lifetime.
