What the younger generation don't understand these days...
I went into a HMV store the other day. I asked the young guy behind the counter if he had anything by The Doors ? He replied, 'yes, a fire blanket and a bucket of sand'.

It's scary to want to share and the younger generation have no clue. And yet, I am out of touch with so many bands and musical artist. Yet, I'm okay because they suck.

Re: What the younger generation don't understand these days...
Heh-heh! I remember the days when I had my favourite 45 grooves playing away on my tranny, (different meaning back then, of course ) and my Dad would swing by and say, ‘what’s that garbage you got playin’? Then he’d walk away whistling Glen Miller’s ‘Moonlight Serenade’. I’d think, Hah, what does he know? When I grow up I won’t be one of those fuddy-duddy’s that’ll never appreciate the sound of the younger generation, I’ll never turn into my parents. But sure enough, overnight, sometime over the next forty years, we did! Today I’m the one asking one of my sons, ‘so what’s that crap you’re downloading onto your iPhone then’?
Although I would have been too young to remember as a baby, the last echoes of wartime music would have been playing in the background and will have had some kind of effect on me. This developed into skiffle, rock and roll, Elvis, Hayley, Beetle ballads, ska, punk, disco, electric, through to Stock Aitken Waterman, Boy Bands, the Gallagher’s and beyond. Such a variety within a relatively short time space, ‘tis amazing how it all fitted into our heads. Most of it brilliant, but much was trash too. Bearing in mind music only has four chords, how far into the future can we change the pattern of what we hear?
For me being in China is funny as much of the popular tunes of today are from western samples taken from the 70’s to the 90’s and the Chinese missus and her friends are simply amazed how trendy, up to date or even advanced I am of their latest track lists, as I merrily hum along in time to the music.
‘She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah’, is hardly inspiring lyrics in hindsight, but all the rave in my day. My son’s are quite happy to listen to Bowie, Queen etc, but not too sure about Abba and the likes. Their music and through to today, isn’t overall too bad and it’s quite easy for me to slip into foot tapping mode, if not the raging dance floor dog I once was.

I spoke to a 19 year old about different bands. He recognize Aerosmith, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. I then mentioned Molly Hatchett and he asked, "Who is she?"

Ah hem. I don't know Molly Hatchett either. Never heard of the band this side of the pond.
But looking into the name, came up with, 'a famous 17th-century axe murderess “hatchet molly” who would behead her lovers'.
Crap, that makes the notches on my bedposts seem rather lame.

Glad you do not want to go to the concert. There are no original members. I saw them in concert in 1982. I met Danny Joe Brown the singer, later in the 90's I met Banner Thomas the original bass player. Both deceased. DJB was a diabetic, and Banner died of a heart attack 4 years ago. The one who has taken over is named Bobby Ingram. Most hate the posers. They refer to him as Bobbie Hatchet. My friend Leslie can't stand him. She was one of the original Honkettes, the back up singers for Lynyrd Skynyrd.
