Bra's
Bra's come in all shape and styles, according to a woman's preferences and what she feels comfy in, etc. I've discovered recently that some of the under wire bras, I'm allergic to the metal in them. Has any woman here ever experienced anything like this, just curious.

Re: Bra's
Hate bras, hate underwear...just more laundry and I hate laundry.
But...certain circumstances require it, it's only proper ya know.
I've looked up the measuring guides online, on how to get the right bra, the right size, the right type, the right fit...but they all feel like a horrid evil kind of straight jacket to me. It's the first thing I wanna take off when I get home.

Re: Bra's
No, never experienced any negative reaction. I've worn wire bra's for many, many, years. I don't like feeling
my breast from the sides.
So, this is a new issue and with only certain bras?

Re: Bra's
Just doing a quick bit of online reading for ya tica, from what I gathered, it's when they use nickel for the underwire...it's possible you may be allergic to some other metal being used but nickel is usually the culprit.

Thank you Chazzy, I'll have to read the labels more closely now. For the past year when I would wear a wire bra, I'd break out thinking I had shingles, that is how bad it was... my skin is so sensitive.

Iwant, I like under wire bra's, but if I can't find bra's made without certain metals, it's back to wearing a regular bra which I hate, they don't give you the same support as a underwire does. I also find when I don't wear a 100 percent cotton bra, the allergic reactions begin with itching, which I've dealt with this condition for years. When I'm home, I don't usually wear any bra.

Re: Bra's
Ah you guys....I gotta giggle outta that!
I dunno tica, when they do allergy tests, it's done by deliberately exposing a person to a huge number of things and waiting to see what they have a reaction to...maybe to determine that you do in fact have a nickel allergy, maybe tape a nickel somewhere on your skin and see if you do have a reaction?

I don't wear bra's and I'm no technician but can't you replace the underwiring by another metal yourself. Don't know if its possible.

The funny thing when one gets tested for allergies is... an allergen you might have not been allergic to at a earlier time in your life, you could possibly be allergic to now. I recently went through another set of allergy tests, it's quite a lengthy process running up to a few hours and it never ceases to amaze me how many syringes they use when testing for all sorts of allergens (don't get scared anyone, they don't jab ya or go deep with them, plus their ultra fine) About the nickel, I wonder if the metal/material that is used for the under wire bra's is a blend of different metals, since nickel itself does not bother my skin. Oh, and guys.... you're too funny!!

Re: Bra's
If you don't have a reaction to the nickel fasteners on jeans, then you probably don't have a nickel allergy. It must be another metal.

I agree with you Chazzy, it must be another metal or metals being used, or a blend of metals and as I continue.....
I take the precautionary on any exposed metal on the inside of my clothing dabbing clear nail polish on them. I have encountered a mild allergic reaction with itching, but to think it would happen with bra's, and the metal is covered by material? Then I think about the chemistry of the body (Ph... etc.) Then I think... Who actually knows the composition of the different metals that could be in use on clothing, that companies/corporations don't allow the public to be aware of (and yet the government stamps the approval of usuage of materials, and importing, etc.), since they try to cut financial corners in every direction. People go around thinking it's all safe, or one is crazy, until some form of occurrence happens to them. JMO

Oh, I forgot... remember a few years ago the recall on imported children's toys, due to the lead they found in them?

Don't they make "underwire" bras with something other than wire?

There might be a material made of a strong plastic (just not sure). Where's the bra inspector's know-it-all, when it's needed?!
